Align your heart with God's values
Pride and arrogance are considered evil, according to Proverbs 8:13.
All who fear the Lord will hate evil.
Therefore, I hate pride and arrogance,
corruption and perverse speech.
Proverbs 8:13
Proverbs 8:13 emphasizes that a key aspect of fearing or respecting the Lord is hating evil, especially pride and arrogance.
The phrase "the fear of the Lord" refers to a reverential awe and obedience towards God. A proper reverence for God involves hating the things that He hates, like pride and evil behavior. It calls us to have a strong dislike for these sins and to avoid them in our own lives.
It is important to have a heart that aligns with God's values and hate the things that are contrary to His nature, like pride. If we belong to Him, we will hate evil things.
To demonstrate how far much of our society has turned its back on God, I’ll relay my efforts this morning to find a stock photo for this message. I did an image search for the word “pride” and all that came back for results were rainbow-related and positive, happy images. Image results from a search for the word “arrogance” came back with only two results: a cat and a man’s face. Without any photographic evidence of the downfall related to pride and arrogance, I chose to use a scenic image of God’s beauty, as evidence of His greatness.

Prayer of the Day
Lord, we come to You in humility, seeking Your divine protection from the evils that surround us. We know that the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But we take refuge in You, our Almighty God, who is greater than any evil that exists.
Please place Your hedge of protection around us, so that no weapon formed against us shall prosper. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit, that we may have the wisdom and discernment to recognize and avoid the traps of the enemy.
We pray that You would bind up and cast out any evil spirits that try to come against us or our loved ones. Let Your light shine in the darkness, exposing the schemes of the wicked.
Thank You for Your promise that the one who is in us is greater than the one who is in the world. We trust in Your power to keep us safe from all harm and evil. In Jesus' mighty name we pray, Amen.
