Hold fast to your hope in God
Two unchangeable things give believers a firm foundation for hope.
so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to seize the hope set before us.
Hebrews 6:18
Hebrews 6:18 highlights the certainty and reliability of God's promise and His oath. These are the two unchangeable things mentioned. In the context of Hebrews, God made a promise to Abraham and confirmed it with an oath (Hebrews 6:13-17). The point being made is that, because it is impossible for God to lie, these two acts—His promise and His oath—give believers a firm foundation for hope.
The reference to God's inability to lie emphasizes His absolute truthfulness and faithfulness. Unlike humans, God is completely trustworthy and reliable in every declaration and promise He makes.
The phrase "we who have fled for refuge" evokes the image of running to a place of safety and protection. It is an allusion to the hope believers have in Christ, which serves as a spiritual refuge. This hope is not wishful thinking but a confident expectation based on the character of God and the fulfillment of His promises.
Today’s verse encourages believers to hold fast to their hope in God. This hope is not based on shifting circumstances or unreliable promises but on the unchanging nature of God Himself.

Prayer of the Day
May this prayer remind you that in every moment, God is with you, offering hope, strength, and peace. Lean into His promises and let them be the light that guides you through the darkness.
Heavenly Father, in the midst of our trials and uncertainties, we seek Your face, knowing that in You alone, our hearts find the hope they yearn for. Your Word reminds us, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you." (Deuteronomy 31:6). Lord, let this truth anchor our souls in the stormy seas of life.
We remember the words of the Psalmist, "I wait for the Lord; I wait and put my hope in His word. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning—more than watchmen for the morning." (Psalm 130:5-6). In waiting, let our hope be refreshed, our strength be renewed, and our vision be clear to see Your hand moving in our lives.
Lord, we find comfort in knowing that "the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." (Psalm 34:18). In our moments of despair, may Your presence envelop us, bringing healing and hope to our weary souls.
We cling to the promise that "those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." (Isaiah 40:31). Empower us to rise above our circumstances, to keep our eyes fixed on You, and to walk in the victory that is ours through Christ Jesus.
In all things, we choose to trust in You and rejoice in the hope of Your salvation. For we know that "hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us." (Romans 5:5). May Your love be our constant companion, guiding us into a future filled with the hope that only comes from You.
In Jesus’ name, we pray,
Amen.
