Receiving His message brings life to those who are spiritually dead
A spiritual resurrection occurs when a person hears the gospel and believes in Jesus Christ.
And I assure you that the time is coming, indeed it’s here now, when the dead will hear my voice—the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen will live.
—John 5:25
From the Gospel of John in the New Testament, 5:25 is part of a larger discourse by Jesus, where he is addressing a group of Jewish leaders. In this specific verse, Jesus is making a profound statement about the power of his voice to bring life to those who are spiritually dead.
The phrase "I assure you" is a way to emphasize the importance and truthfulness of what is being said. Jesus is saying that a time is coming, and is already here, when the dead (those who are spiritually dead, not physically dead) will hear his voice. Those who hear his voice and believe in him will have eternal life.
This verse is often interpreted as a reference to the spiritual resurrection that occurs when a person hears the gospel and believes in Jesus Christ. The voice of the Son of God is the message of salvation, and those who hear this message and believe in Jesus will pass from spiritual death to spiritual life.
John 5:25 is a powerful statement by Jesus about the power of his message to bring life to those who are spiritually dead.
